"Grimm Tales Made Gay" by Guy Wetmore Carryl is a collection of humorous poems that reimagine classic fairy tales with a satirical twist. Each tale is presented in a light-hearted and witty manner, often highlighting the absurdities and moral lessons of the original stories. The collection includes parodies of well-known tales such as "Little Red Riding Hood," "Cinderella," and "Bluebeard," among others. Carryl's clever use of rhyme and meter adds a playful tone to the narratives, making them entertaining for both children and adults. The poems often conclude with a moral, though these are delivered with a tongue-in-cheek approach, poking fun at the traditional didactic endings of fairy tales. The illustrations by Albert Levering complement the text, adding visual humor to the already amusing stories. Overall, "Grimm Tales Made Gay" offers a refreshing and comedic take on the timeless tales, inviting readers to view them through a lens of humor and irony.
