The Civil War in Portugal and the Siege of Oporto (1836) is a historical account of the Portuguese Civil War written by a British officer of Hussars. The book details the events leading up to the conflict, including the political and social tensions that divided the country. It also provides a vivid description of the Siege of Oporto, a critical battle in the war that lasted from July 1832 to May 1834.The author, who remains anonymous, provides a first-hand account of the war and the events that unfolded in Portugal during this tumultuous period. He describes the military tactics used by both sides, the hardships faced by soldiers and civilians, and the political and social implications of the conflict. The book also includes a detailed analysis of the causes of the civil war and the factors that contributed to its outcome. The author provides a critical assessment of the role played by the various factions involved in the conflict, including the liberal and absolutist parties, and the impact of foreign intervention.Overall, The Civil War in Portugal and the Siege of Oporto (1836) is a valuable historical resource for anyone interested in the political and military history of Portugal in the 19th century, as well as the broader context of European history during this period. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
