Beloved of the Gods: After the Danish (1883) is a novel written by Mrs. Oscar Beringer. The book is set in the 9th century and focuses on the life of a young woman named Hilda, who is the daughter of a Danish chieftain. Hilda is beautiful, intelligent, and fiercely independent, and she finds herself torn between two very different men: the brave and honorable Viking warrior, Sigurd, and the cunning and manipulative English nobleman, Athelstan. As the story unfolds, Hilda must navigate the complex political and social landscape of her time, which is marked by constant warfare and shifting alliances between the Danes and the English. She also faces personal challenges, including the loss of her beloved brother and the betrayal of a trusted friend.Throughout the book, Hilda is portrayed as a strong and resilient character who refuses to be defined by the limitations of her gender or her social status. She is a beloved figure among both the Danes and the English, and her courage and determination inspire those around her.Beloved of the Gods: After the Danish is a compelling historical novel that offers a vivid and immersive portrait of life in the Viking Age. It is a story of love, betrayal, and redemption, and it is sure to captivate readers who enjoy historical fiction and epic tales of adventure and romance. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
